Antiques in Isle sur la Sorgue

7/9

Yesterday was a day of rest, so I really only have a couple pictures to post from that day.

Marine and Valentine came to visit again!

They taught me the word for "cannonball" in the pool ("la bombe"), we did cartwheels together, we jammed to Lady GaGa (at their request), and Valentine showed me this animation she did for her school website and I was major impressed. Malheuresement they left today I believe for vacation and they will return the day after we leave! D: I'm going to miss them.

7/10

Today we went to Isle sur la Sorgue! Isle sur la Sorgue is known as the Venice of France, and its market is open on Sundays so we decided to go!

The drive out!

The town was built around all these canals, hence the "Venice of France."

The market of Isle sur la Sorgue is known for its antiques.

I remember the days I used to ride on my dad's shoulders... :)

Van Gogh tossed his ear in the river here, so they created this sculpture to remember him.

No market is complete without its delicious foodstuffs!

The first hand-made pottery I've seen at any of the markets! I bought a mug here. :)

He was not happy I took a picture... Too bad... :P

One of the places Chandri told us to go to was the town cathedral. IT BLEW MY MIND.

We were all sort of chatting when we walked in and we stepped through the doorway and there was this collective gasp and we all fell silent and just stood there gaping.

It was absolutely incredible. Breathtaking. Inspirational. I think I stopped functioning for a good 30 seconds while I just stood there and stared.

I took some videos, hopefully I can get them up tomorrow.

Ever since the Mayfest celebrations at the Waldorf School, I have LOVED honey candy. I saw this whole stand of honey products and geeked out a little bit and bought one immediately. I also bought some lavender honey and it is SO DELICIOUS.

Emma and Geoffrey kept laughing at me because I was like IN LOVE with this stall. It was all vinaigrettes but they were like THE MOST DELICIOUS THINGS I HAVE EVER TASTED. I had passion fruit vinegar and I was practically drooling the rest of the day from the memory.

Due to the like a million degree heat, we decided ice cream was in order. These guys were awesome, they were so cheerful and they gave us giant samples to try and it was all great fun.

DELICIOUS.

Nutella and Violet ice cream. Emma and I were proclaiming the whole rest of the day that we had never had happier stomachs. And yes, I was using my honey candy as a spoon. Best idea I've ever had.

One of these was, of all things, an Ohio license plate!

The water in the river here was unbelievably clear.

Emma asked if the slingshots actually worked, so he beckoned us to follow him, through this other lady's tent, to the side of the river. He picked up a rock, pointed to the tree he was going to hit, loaded the sling shot, and then proceeded to hit the target like a pro. Emma bought one.

Kayakers in the Sorgue!

Cool rivers are heaven for hot and tired feet.

This town makes me so incredibly happy.

The whole big happy family!

We went back to the church for the people who hadn't been able to find it while we were perusing the market.

I feel like I could spend a lifetime in this cathedral and still a new, incredible, extraordinary detail I hadn't noticed before.

Heading back to the car...

I'm going to have tapestries in my house when I grow up.

Mona Lisa table = awesome.

A final view of the Sorgue.

We stopped at a fancy boulangerie on the way home.

And finally, after a pleasant ride through the countryside with happy bellies and lighter wallets, we returned to St. Saturnin les Apt for a swim, and an evening of games.
