The day of our departure arrives and so does the rain! We're taking Rusty to my grandma's house and then we're hitting the road, beginning the journey to New York, where I will fly out of JFK on Friday.
A lot of people have asked me what exactly it is I'm doing in France.
See, I was just looking for any sort of work abroad for the summer, and I came across something called the Barat Foundation. They are a "not-for-profit educational corporation dedicated to the power of the arts to transform lives and to level the playing field for highly motivated, underserved youth." They basically take kids from rough parts of town in Newark, NJ who are really smart, artistic, etc, and take them to France for a month.
My job is documentarian. I'll be taking pictures, uploading a blog (separate from this one), doing videos, and eventually editing together a documentary of the experience.
So there ya go! Maiden post. T-3 days. :)
