Bienvenue à Provence!

6/24 - 6/25

The adventure truly begins!

The morning starts out wet and chilly as we leave Passaic and head toward Newark.

But first some coffee...

...and naturally, then, some ice cream to follow.

This was the neatest ice cream place! You got a bowl, filled it with any of the flavours of ice cream to your hearts content, and then the final product was weighed and the price determined thus.

After satiating our need for caffeine and sugar, we head down to Newark.

Barat Foundation! The receptionist told us she didn't know why, but no one had come in today to open it, but we were welcome to look around... Mom and I just gave each other a knowing look.

This is awesome!

And it's all student-made.

Molly: "Are those nuns?"
Mom: "Yep."
Dad: "Driving in their Nunmobile."
Me: "READY THE NUNMOBILE!"

The Peace Mural!

And now, heading to the airport...

Yes, yes it should!

...and lunch did not disappoint. That's bison meat!

At a wee wildlife park.

HARRY POTTER GLASSES. This kid will go far in life.

And thus the group meets for the first time!

Waiting to board the flight to Paris...

Aaaaaaaand we're boarding!

It was a double-decker plane. HUGE.

Heeeeey I think we might be on like a French airline or something... :D

Breakfast of champions.

Her friend drew something on Emma's elbow (an elephant she claims?) and she wasn't allowed to look until we landed in Paris.

Thanks to a couple hour delay trying to get out of JFK Airport, we arrive at 1:05 in Paris local time, and our connector flight left at 1:15. Needless to say, we didn't make it. So, we got grand spankin' new tickets... for a flight leaving at 6:00. FIVE HOUR LAYOVER.

Proof. :)

Walking to our gate, where we will spend the next five hours...

Probably one of the greatest backpacks I've ever seen...

The bathrooms were all bubbly...

I WANT TO DO THAT.

Charles De Gaul Airport.

Same, dude.

Guess how you say tabouli in French! ...Tabouli...

We land in Marseilles and are united with Madam Barat herself!

PS they lost the luggage of three folks in our group. Mine included. But they gave us "un cadeau" -- of toiletries lest we haven't any will our suitcases arrive. :)

All ready to go to the House!

Um, Provence is gorgeous.

Paying for parking.

It has 6 gears! And the Reverse is the first option! ...So unnatural...

Apparently the people in this region are so proud of their melons, they built a statue of one.

Home sweet home!

Heading upstairs to chat and eat dinner.

We made it!

Provence is famous for its lavendar.

"Hidden Villa." We drove past it twice.

Ready to make foodstuffs!

Introductions and information.

She looks like me!

Drawing straws to see who will be in which room.

Smells like yum...

After a long day of delayed flights, enormous layovers, lost luggage, and international voyage, we finally sit down to a delicious, Provençal dinner, cooked by one of the French instructors! See how it's black outside? That's because by the time we were finally settled in and ready to eat, it was past 11:00.

Bread = ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA.

My room!

Tomorrow the plan is to sleep in as late as our little hearts desire, maybe go to the market, hang by the pool, and recuperate from jetlag in the beauty of Provence.
